PC behaving strangely

Go to solution Solved by solado,

A lot of this could be related to an out dated bios if you haven't ever updated it. Looking at your signature it could be quite old.

Update your bios if so because there have been a lot of stability improvements since the release.

Hi everyone. I need help with a strange situation. Recently, my PC started to give me a hard time. It is still ok for my use (specs below) but it behaves strangely. Indeed :

- When I let it turned on for a while when not using it, it will go to sleep on its own but a while after doing it, it will turn itself back on for no reason; I have to switch off the power supply when in sleep mode if I want it to stay in sleep mode.

- When it is in sleep mode and I switch it back on, it powers on but I get no display. The "CPU" LED stays on and nothing happens. I have to shut it down and then switch it back on again, and in that case it goes out of sleep mode normally and I get a display output.

- When I first start it or get it out of sleep mode (using the method I just described), it will be very laggy (I have to wait a few seconds to be able to get into Windows, the desktop will go black for a bit...) for a few seconds and ONLY THEN will I be able to use the PC normally.

With the CPU LED being lit when I don't have signal, does it mean the CPU is the problem ? If so, why can I use the PC normally once these few strange steps are over ? I don't really get it and I wonder if I should change my gear, since it still works fine but this behaviour is really upsetting and makes me fearful.

Thank you for your time and your help.

Ok thanks for the replies. I would not have thought that could be the source of the problem. I'll give it a try. Should I go for the latest beta BIOS available ?

Don't bother with beta, just do the latest stable release.

Well, I did it and it looks like the strange behaviour is indeed gone. I let it went to sleep twice and it switched back on normally when I did it.

Thanks for the help guys!

Don't forget to mark a solution as it helps others who may have this problem 🙂
