I have been back and forth on my build between AMD and Intel. I think I have made up my mind and I am going with the i7-13700K 3.4. I was going to go with the i7-13900k but decided to save a little cash on this build. It looks like the 13700k will be plenty good enough for several years for what I do (photoshop, lightroom, Adobe camera raw, DXO PureRaw 2 and DaVinci Resolve Studio 18).  I will keep this rig for at least 5 years and probably longer. I was wondering what z790 board and RAM you guys have used that worked right out of the box without any hiccups?

This is what I put together on PC part picker

Not really a RAM kit I'd recommend, with DDR5 you want to prioritize frequency above all else, and for that price you can find 6000MT/s kits that will perform better in pretty much every situation. You don't really want to pay for better timings, the primary timings on DDR5 affect performance very little, with latency being more a factor of the frequency due to the memory controller clock being so low a lot of the time.

Z690 Unify X with a Corsair Vengeance 5200MT/s Cl40 kit. It requires a BIOS update to function, but it had BIOS flashback and worked like a charm. Yes I know that kit is slower than that 6000MT/s guidelines above, but I wanted to some RAM overclocking and that kit does 7000MT/s CL34 when overclocked (it was bought from eBay so I could guarantee it was Hynix memory chips knew it would clock that well). It's not something I'd necessarily recommend, but it worked and got some really high speed memory for cheap.

This RAM kit: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP) 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6400 CL32-39-39-102 1.40V Dual Channel Desktop Memory F5-6400J3239G16GA2-TZ5RK (Matte Black)

MSI Z790 Tomahawk or the Edge. MSI seems to have the best boards now… I know, hard to believe. Since the DDR5 era began, growing pains have been plentiful. The memory nuts out there like Buildzoid have said in numerous occasions that MSI is making the best boards right now.

Edit: I see you already have the Tomahawk. Good choice. Spend the smidge extra on the memory kit I recommended. The kit you have on your list is pretty slow. Also, I would swap those drives for Samsung 980 Pros, or better yet, WD Black SN850 or SN850x drives. Those changes in memory kits and drives will only be an extra hundred, but well worth it.
