Need upgrade advice

So above mention are my current parts, I want to game at 1440p as much as possible and will be upgrading to either a 6700xt or new rdna3 gpu when they come out. I am thinking of upgrading my cpu and mobo first and in january or february upgrading the gpu so that is one thing to take into consideration but I will upgrade it 100% to one of the mentioned.

I need some help in choosing what processor to buy considering that I will mostly use it for programing and gaming, some editing for a friends yt channel as well. Currently I am debating between a 5600x and 12400f because they fit my budget the best. If you guys have any other suggestions I am open for them I do not mind buying used as well.

I would get an i3-12100f and a B660M Bazooka motherboard from MSI, then when locked 13th gen processors release (they are going to be a better value than the 12400 due to having e-cores on the locked i5’s) you can upgrade to one of those and sell the 12100f. https://at.pcpartpicker.com/list/kYMH3y

 

The mobo I chose is a really good one, especially for the price. I have done some builds with it. It has enough power delivery to handle even a 13th gen i9 boosting to its max frequency. The most recent build was an SFF build in a Meshroom S for my gf, which is an ITX case that can actually fit an ATX or mATX motherboard.

Did not know that the 13th and 12th gen use the same socket that is a pretty good option. Thank you very much will look into both items from the list.

yup with intel they do 2 generations per socket except for the first gen. It’s 1, then 2-3 4-5 6-7 8-9 10-11 12-13 and 14 will use a different socket.

Nice to know, one more question what do you think about the ASUS TUF B660m plus instead of the msi board

decent board but not as good as the MSI board- the MSI board has better VRMs. 10+1 on the Asus board vs 12+1+1 on the MSI board. That means the CPU will get better power on the MSI board.

Ohh okey then I will get that board and that cpu should I upgrade my ram as well or wait when i get 13th gen to upgrade ram then? And thank you very much you have been very helpfull with all of this.

your ram is good enough. If you have been running into issues where you have used up too much of your ram you can get a matching kit if you want, your ram is on the slow side for DDR4 but not too slow. 

 

If you upgrade I would get a 32gb kit of 3600mt/s DDR4 and sell your old kit on ebay, but it’s not a priority.

If you upgrade I would get a 32gb kit of 3600mt/s DDR4 and sell your old kit on ebay, but it’s not a priority.

Depending if I am hosting a server for certain games like zomboid or minecraft I have ran into that issue so I will look into a nice kit after I upgrade the cpu first, will go for the specs you have mentioned.
