Posted November 5, 2022 I have some random 80 plus bronze 300w psu from a dell or something from an old pc. I also have a sata-6pin adapter and i was wondering if it would be safe to use with a GTX 660... Is it a dual-SATA to 6-pin PCIe, or single? I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk. Posted November 5, 2022 IIRC I've had a PSU from Delta for some testing, and it was a pretty heavy unit and made a good impression. They also make good fans. But that doesn't mean much because I could be mistaken, and we'd need to know exactly what model it was and someone who can tell if it's good. Not only connectors can be fire hazards. Now, define "old", because a PSU from 2010 is a PSU from 2010 and should probably not be counted on no matter who built it. Single-SATA to PCIe is an issue because a 6-pin PCIe connector outputs up to 75W. A SATA connector is only designed to carry 60. The GTX 660 draws up to 140W. 75W of that is coming from the board, which leaves 65W to be pulled from the PCIe connection--a connection that's limited to 60W. At max power, that's a defecit of 5W. End of the world? No, not at all, but you should really go with a dual-SATA to 6-pin connector instead. Both in general and in this specific case, where it does make a difference. But again, if the PSU is more than 7-8 years old, I probably just wouldn't use it on a main system at all. I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
