Budget (including currency): 1200 (Excluding GPU)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA 5 / 6 and COD

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Looking to upgrade an old i7 7700k build that has an rtx 3090

Currently I'm leaning towards an i7 12700k but wondering if going for a 13700k is worth it? Also was looking at 32GB of Corsair DDR5-5600 ram but wondering if going for 32GB 6000 is worth it?

All input appreciated

Thank you,

Even the 13600k will out perform the 12700k so I'd say it's definitely worth it if you are buying all new parts. Unless you're getting the 12700k for a really good deal I'd go with the 13700k. Also, unless absolutely necessary you can save some money and go DDR4 instead of DDR5 the performance difference between DDR4 and DDR5 in most scenarios isn't worth the extra cost at this point in time. I'm sure it will be in the future but as of now it's not there.

Main Desktop: CPU - i9-14900k | Mobo - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | GPU - PNY Gaming OC RTX 5080 16GB RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 64GB 6400mhz | AIO - Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm | PSU - Corsair RM1000X | Case - Hyte Y40 - White | Storage - Samsung 980 Pro 1TB Nvme /  Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 4TB Nvme / Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB Nvme / Samsung 870 EVO 4TB SSD / Samsung 870 QVO 2TB SSD/ Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD|

TV Streaming PC: Intel Nuc CPU - i7 13th Gen | RAM - 16GB DDR4 3200mhz | Storage - Crucial P3 Plus 1TB Nvme |

Thanks, tbh I think anything would be an improvement over a 7700k lol but just not sure how much of an impact it would make

Just sad to see myself only getting 100fps with a rtx 3090 in COD right now

Thank you,

Personally I would go for DDR4, grab a good kit of 3200 or 3600 with a nice D4 mobo and you’re set.
