Hello!

I've been having an issue where my PC reboots almost instant upon startup. This issue first appeared when I built it four months ago but has since disappeared with me troubleshooting.

I've gone through a plethora of troubleshooting including

-Purchasing a new RAM kit

-Reseating all the cables, PSU and MB

-Windows update

-Trying different DIMM slots

-Adjusting DRAM Voltages in the Bios and turning off Global C-state (which worked for about 4 months until today)

Today I woke up and my PC decided not to post. I removed one stick, which didn't work, then tried the other by itself and it worked! Then my PC began rebooting again.

I decided to pick up a new RAM kit and same exact thing. The ram in slots 2 and 4 didn't even post, slot 2 was able to post by itself but rebooted. Then I tried slot 1 and 3, slot 3 posted by itself again, the stick in slot 1 didn't even light up, but the rebooting still persisted (RGB ram).

I am now almost 99999% sure it is my motherboard. I am assuming their is a power distribution issue with the board itself and more specifically the DIMM slots, it's just weird that it worked when I changed those specific Bios settings and suddenly decided to crash and burn.

Still slightly confused now on why the other stick in my original kit is not working. Maybe it is a red herring or just unfortunate coincidence.

Either way I am lost on what to do next. I am currently in college so my time to RMA the MB and then wait, get a new MB, etc is all very limited. I am considering taking it to a local repair shop hoping they will be able to sort it out for me. Any suggestions would be great.

Shitty situation @Dylmao 😞

I would say your predictions are correct (unfortunately). A faulty Mobo’ component somewhere on the board is likely the culprit. Your OP mentions more troubleshooting than just reseating hardware components. Not ideal given college, but perhaps a local shop could provide more insight / tests.
I presume the PSU is working fine, has it been voltage tested?

Hello!

I agree with both of you, it is most definitely a motherboard issue. However, I have had this kind of problem before and it turned out to be dust in one of the memory slots. You can take a lantern/flashlight and inspect the connectors inside the slot to see if there is any foreign material inside and use a soft toothbrush or a qtip with alcohol and gently brush the contact points as you would brush your own teeth (reach inside the connector and brush from the bottom outwards). Other than this, there is little that can save your motherboard. In that case, I would suggest reaching out to a local repair shop and asking if they would let you "lease" a compatible motherboard for the time while the RMA process culminates.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, and good luck.

Cheers! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
