This is the build I'm currently working on putting together. Currently building it piecemeal so the parts I end up getting may differ slightly (depending on what I find deals on), but overall this is what I'm looking to get for parts. Posted a while ago for suggestions, but decided I'd rather build it piece by piece rather than try to budget out an entire build all at once

Not super recommended, especially now since 13th gen is coming out soon so I'd highly reccommend you'd wait.

I've never heard of corsairs gs lineup, so I can't attest to its quality

A 3060 is pretty low end for a primarily gaming PC at the price of 1700 usd. I'd expect at least a 6800xt for that price

The 12700k isn't needed as a 12700 would work just fine in games, alternatively a 5800x3d is a choice here

A 400 dollar mobo is excessive and isn't really worth it for the price, any half decent mobo like the b660 x ax could handle a 12700

Changed parts are underlined, I'd get a better PSU, honestly. I can't even find it on the community list, how old is that thing...

12700K is great but you won't need 12700K, I'd wait for 13th gen, see if 13600K is worth it.

Motherboard, $400 board? That's way too much, changed to a good board with good features.

16GB RAM instead of 32GB, there's no need for 32GB even now, 16GB is still plenty for gaming.

970 EVO is way overpriced and unnecessarily expensive, a decent value SSD is better, or get the WD SN570.

GPU, 12700K with 3060 is just silly combination, changed to 6800XT. I'd pick a 6900 XT if the PSU is at least known, even 6800XT I'm a bit scared something might go wrong.

Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work.

You can get way cheaper parts for much less money. I also don't know if that psu is from an old rig or not. If you just bought it, I would definitely recommend returning it. A Corsair CX650F or RM750 is definitely the way to go here.

Yeah my PSU is a bit dated. Got it used off of Facebook. Figured it should get me by for the base rig, but if it's too sketchy I can always delegate it to a spare (was thinking of building a cheap server at some point, anyway). As for the GPU, I put the 3060 there as a placeholder it's the minimum I'm willing to go for this rig. As far as cost vs performance goes, I know the last time I built a rig (circa 2009) AMD was considered the budget gaming master. I've heard of some issues Radeon cards have had with their software and drivers not being as polished as GeForce cards, which is why I went with a GeForce build, but my last build ran AMD and Radeon graphics with no issues, so honestly I'm open to going that route if I'd get more bang for my buck (only reason I went Intel and GeForce beyond the polished software is because my laptop runs Intel and GeForce, and I haven't had any issues with them).

And I know with newer generations right around the corner my piecemeal approach may not make the most sense, but honestly I'm not the type of gamer who needs the latest and greatest. I'm perfectly happy being a generation behind as long as I can play my games at modest settings with smooth frame rates. Only reason I'm even upgrading from my laptop is because my GeForce 1650 doesn't have the VRAM to play Deathloop. I mean hell the biggest reason I'm building a rig instead of just investing in a new gaming laptop is because I love building rigs and I haven't built a rig in ten years haha. Jonesing for my rig building fix.
