R9 290 vs 780?

So im thinking about selling my sli 660 tis for a single card. Which is better the 290 or the 780? I'll be buying it used. Can the 290 actually beat the 780 in some benchmarks?

Yes it can. The 290 and 780 are pretty much neck and neck.

The 290/780 is a downgrade from 660 Ti sli though.

Yea i know its a downgrade, but im not a fan of the heat and noise. So which one should I get? I can get the 290 for much cheaper than the 780.

Get the 290 unless you need some of the 780 features. Why pay more for similar performance?

I agree, I just wasn't sure how the 290 stacked up against the 780. But since you said they're about the same, I think I may get the 290.

Oh and one more thing, the 290 will be under water.
