Exploring Storage Options for SSF Build

Go to solution Solved by fisterkev,

Have you considered simply getting a couple of 3.5" HDD enclosures? Basically turn those two HDDs into external USB drives? They're pretty cheap and work fine.

You seem to still have a lot of room in your budget. Why not get another 1-2TB SSD for your games and keep the HDDs for bulk storage? That mobo has another M.2 slot on the back. You can get a 2TB NVME for pretty cheap nowadays. That's a lot of games right there.

Hey all,

Im looking to downsize my system from a Mid-Tower https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NMwQp2 to a SSF: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/p4hzGL. My budget is about $1500 USD, but i have most of the parts already. My concern isn't about the PC it self, i'm mostly wondering about other storage options, the case that im looking at only has space for 2x 2.5" drives, and currently i have 2x 3.5" drives that i use for photo and game storage. I don't really want to change that so i was considering a NAS like Synology, but is that practical considering that what i want to use them for (large games and photo storage)?

Any help is appreciated.

Budget (including currency): $1500 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly be used for games like CS:GO, Apex Legends and Elite: Dangerous. School work (Computer Science). Small Business work.

Other details Here is my existing parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NMwQp2 TLDR Ryzen 9 3900x, Zotac 2070 Super, 32GB G.Skill 3200 in a Corsair 500D Case

I store all my music on a Synology NAS loaded with HDDs and the latency is fine for file storage and music playback, however i certainly wouldn't try to play games on one.
