Clean drivers?

Go to solution Solved by DamDirtyApe,

Well, what do you mean with the standard unistall? And There's only one folder, right?

My last example uninstall was from 7970 to 770. So I had to remove everything from AMD.

I just go through the Uninstall prompt in Control Panel.

Hello there, I'm soon upgrading my graphics card from a Gtx 660.. And my question is, do I need to clean all the old drivers before? Or will it work without any problems even if I don't remove the old drivers? I could only find threads about people that got a probkem without changing graphics card..

I've read that with the same series card, like a 660 to a 680, you can just plug it in. But I've also read mixed reviews on that. Some people say you can, many say you cannot.

It doesn't take long, so I would say uninstall them. That's what I do, at least. When updating drivers with the same GPU, though, you just install over the old ones.

Alright, I'm upgrading to a 780 so.. Do you know any good cleaner programs or do Nvidia have one themselves?

Nvidia doesn't have one that I know of. I actually do the standard uninstall then clean folders manually. Never had an issue with it, but I have with driver cleaners. Though that was a really long time ago. Accidentally let it clear way more than I guess I was suppose to. I'm sure someone can post up a good one.

I don't think that you need to bother if it's just a 660 to 780. They use the same drivers.

Id go for Display driver uninstaller, boot into safe mode ( F8 )  an just open it up, type in Nvidia, and it will seek out all drivers and remove them. Then re-start as normal, an install the new driver that you want.

Thanks, I'll do that. And if I get any problems I go into CMD.

I'm pretty sure you can just replace it as well, but I'm not sure. I've always just uninstalled drivers since it takes like... 3 - 5 minutes including reboots. GO, SSD!
