Replacing cpu

Budget (including currency):

Country: Norway

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: EFT, CSGO, MW2, FIFA 23

Other details: I bought a prebuilt hp (i know stupid) and the cpu is dead. So i was wondering if i should replace just the cpu or buy a bundle deal and upgrade.

If i was to replace the cpu i think i would go for the same Ryzen 5 5700G cause it did the job and i liked having on board graphics. This would cost me: 290 usd

The upgrade i am looking at is:

- Ryzen 9 5900x with cooler

- Kingston fury beast 2x16gb ddr4-3200 ram

- Asus ROG STRIX B550-E gaming atx am4 motherboard

This is the bundle for 705 usd but then i will also have to buy the following:

- Corsair 4000d airflow

- Cooler master v650 Gold V2 fully modular atx power (not to sure about the power-supply. i just got the cheapest modular i could find with a bit of overhead on wattage)

This would cost 918 usd

Just buying the Ryzen 9 5900x would cost me 421 usd

Sure there are other cpu upgrades that are not as drastic but i kinda feel like i need that because i liked the integrated graphics since it helped a lot with gpu driver issues.

I also maybe feel like my gpu is going to be a bottleneck if i upgrade.

So what i am asking is is the big upgrade worth it?

I mean, the 5900x here in Spain it's already 405€, motherboard and ram will be 200 and 100€.

Do you need the extra power that 5900x gives?

Personal opinion, you are paying what you are getting....

900€ for a computer without a graphics card is today standard. Ask yourself, do you need that extra power on the CPU?

900€ vs 300€(5700G) --> Do you need that extra power?

You really don't need  5900X for your games, a 5600X is $200 and will fare as good

Yeah but i dont really want the 5600X, its between the 2 options stated.

5700G is a bad choice if you have a dGPU, a 5600X will perform better in games...

If you want some more cores get a 5700X

Yeah, very true. I am also just thinking of getting rid of the shitty hp prebuilt parts.

How did you verify the cpu is dead? Cpus are the very very last part that breaks in a system.

No hp board except for in their most expensive omen is capablr of properly handling a 5900x.

Its the pavillion gaming pc from hp

The pc turns on but then after a few seconds just turns off again. so i am pretty sure its the cpu.

If i am going to upgrade to a 5900x i will be getting a b550-e

Thats gonna be something entirely else. Those pcs are notorious for board issues.

This issue is basically never the cpu and always something board or power related.

Do you still have warranty? If d

so get it now sell the system and build new. There is NOTHING worth keeping from that crapshute. Its made out of bad components through and through.

Yeah its not really good, but the board seems completely fine. All the fans, lights and gpu turns on for a few seconds and then it shuts off.

That says nothing sadly. Delivering power is the most basic function. If anything else works is a mystery

Since you are in norway you have 2 years standard warranty and should still be applicable.

So. DON'T cheap out on a PSU because this can lead to issues in the future. For around $100 you can buy a 750w platinum PSU that'll last you years. And usually the only time you'll see a bottleneck is if you have a really garbage CPU and you pair it with a faster GPU. And make sure you install the ram properly

A 750 w platinum PSU is more like $200 in Norway.
