Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): new games for the next 3 Years than upgrade of gpu

Hello, I decided I want to build a new pc with the about the following specs:

i5 12600k. 32 gb ram and a 3070...

I am asking should i wait for the release of the 4000 series in about 2 weeks to benefit of a potentials pricedrop in 3070s price?

Does any of u have exprience with the best time to buy "old" GPUs?

Since the 4000 series is coming out so soon, you should wait. Nvidia will probably release a card that’s cheaper and equivalent or better than the 3070. Also, if you need a graphics card right now, you should get an RX 6800. It’s max price is about as much as the lowest price I’ve seen on a 3070, and it’s better (unless you need ray-tracing)

AMD RDNA3 will also launch in November this year and that I think it's the sweet spot to buy a 3070 or a 3080!

I am also considering to buy a 3070, but if price drops for a 3080 I might  also considering getting one!

Seeing as the ryzen 5000 series barely drop that much in price because the ryzen 7000 series is not that enticing, price points are way too high and performance gains aren't enough to warrant an upgrade from 5000 series.

The current 3000 series might not drop as much as expected, especially since the 4090 and 4080 are not that convincing. People expected ryzen 5000 series prices would drop, but here we are.

Keep in mind that RX 7000 series is supposed to be launched this November, but who knows if they will release mid tier ones as well. So, there are risks to waiting, would the wait be worth it? Only time will tell.

With $2000 now you can get a 12700k and a 3080, even a 3080Ti should be possible

But if you aren't in a hurry, waiting a couple months for Ryzen 5000s & Intel 13th gen CPU,  and RTX4000 & RX7000 GPU should allow you to get better parts, as you have enough budget to get the new gen stuff. I won't say that for budget builds, where nothing should show until 8+ months
