Sorry, wasn't sure if this should go under PSU or motherboard..

My PC has been showing an ami page during boot, which says "The system has only detected a single 4-pin connector connected for the CPU. It is recommended to connect 8-pin power plugs for system stability and to prevent the motherboard from overheating under heavy usage."

I have an ASUS PRIME B560M-A/CSM motherboard and Seasonic 750W Focus Gold PSU.

I tried unplugging and re-plugging the 24 pin and 8 pin plugs on the motherboard a few times (the PSU end of these cables is hard wired) & still shows error. I then swapped the PSU for my 9yr old Antec & no error (no ami page on boot at all).

I determined that this shows that the PSU is faulty, so took it to the retailer, who said that this error doesn't matter if the system is stable & can be ignored. I convinced them to take it and give it to their tech guy to look at, who sent 'no fault found' and a video showing them running a gpu stress test on a lower end GPU than in my system, which seems to be an irrelevant test. Also, even if it is OK for my current RTX3070 GPU & 11600KF CPU, I may want to upgrade down the track (I had my last PC for 9 years after all) & wouldn't want to run into problems with a PSU that should've been replaced.

I am concerned that this could cause damage to the motherboard if it does cause overheating as the error message suggests. Should this power supply be repaired/replaced?

Also, I have some electronic knowledge - if anyone knows how the motherboard distributes and detects the power between these connectors and the VRMs, I'd be interested. I did check with the PSU unplugged from my PC & under no load there is 12.04V at each of the pins on the 8 pin connector.

Thanks.

Hi, Welcome!

What was the error message?

"The system has only detected a single 4-pin connector connected for the CPU. It is recommended to connect 8-pin power plugs for system stability and to prevent the motherboard from overheating under heavy usage."
