Good Day!

I would like to ask something about server, I'm currently installing Windows Server 2016 on my old motherboard to practice configuring windows server, I have a 1150 board and an i5 4th gen processor and my question is should I install driver and what kind of driver should I install, and does the process of installing a driver on a server is the same with desktop computer ?

Thank you :)

I found the process fairly automated for essential drivers. Once installed, find the server's management utilities online and install it. The management utility will take care of the rest.

I cannot understand it sir, I'm very new to server interface. Can you please help me. I have a windows server 2016 standard installed, I've tried to use a driver pack but it doesn't work, I've also tried to install it manually on device manager but it says that the latest driver was already  installed even though the graphics was still in Microsoft basic display adapter.

Do you have a list of failed driver installs? I can check the manufactures' website to see if they are still support that version of Windows Server.

I think the only driver that I cannot install is the graphics driver.

Here is my motherboard model: Gigabyte B85-HD3

Sir, Thank you so much for your help.

Sir, Thank you so much for your help.

Do you know what revision the motherboard is? Check BIOS.

For Windows Server 2016 you can use drivers meant for Windows 10. You'll want to install the latest versions of the drivers for your hardware, such as your GPU (integrated or dedicated), sound (if needed), networking, etc.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

Pluto: Intel Core i7-2600, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASUS P8Z68-V, 4GB XFX AMD Radeon RX 570, 8GB ASUS AMD Radeon RX 570, 1TB Samsung 860 EVO, 3TB Seagate BarraCuda, 750W EVGA BQ, Fractal Design Focus G, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

York (NAS): Intel Core i5-2400, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, HP Compaq OEM, 240GB Kingston V300 (boot), 3x2TB Seagate BarraCuda, 320W HP PSU, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, TrueNAS CORE (12.0)

Yes however finding the drivers is the current issue. Windows is unable to detect the latest and the user is unable to have the management software locate them so it needs to be done manually hence the question about motherboard revision as certain revisions of the motherboard appear to lack support for the graphics driver for Windows Server 2016 / Windows 8 and up.

It's a B85 system. The Intel integrated graphics will absolutely support Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 on a board that recent. It wouldn't have anything to do with the board revision. Besides, it doesn't matter if Gigabyte supports Windows Server 2016 on that motherboard. It's a standard operating system.

@Lataupe16.19 Here is the Intel driver page for your iGPU (assuming you're using integrated graphics since you haven't said otherwise): https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/81496/graphics/intel-hd-graphics-family/intel-hd-graphics-4600.html#support-article-selector:~:text=Latest Drivers %26 Software

That link will highlight the driver area at the bottom of the page.

You can try this VGA driver.

https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Driver/mb_driver_vga_intel_64_w10.zip?v=c377a34aac7e9b5f078b74fbcb6bb38d

What CPU model are you using? I will check it's drivers next.

According to the support chart it states that your CPU is not supported by the F4 BIOS. You need to update to F9 or above for full CPU support.

Here is BIOS F11: https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-b85-hd3_f11.zip?v=32bcbbf4220b9a132258fc7c6904db2b

Here is BIOS F11:

If their board didn't support the CPU it wouldn't be running. Chances are they have the later revision of the board, in which case it wouldn't be a good idea to recommend installing a specific BIOS for a potentially different board. I don't see how the BIOS is an issue though. All OP needs is the Intel driver I linked from the Intel site earlier. That's the correct driver for their iGPU.
