Battery discharge.

So I have a problem with my Moto G. 

 

When I come home from school, I usually plug my phone into my laptop to charge it and put it in tethering mode. When I put the tethering option on, the phone shuts down and restarts. When it reboots, the battery has drained to 1%. Usually the phone is at ~40% charge when I plug it in.

 

This happens every single day and the phone is not even a week old. Besides that, it runs nice and smooth with no problems. Could the problem be just in the battery charge indicator?
