Choosing a Power Supply...

Go to solution Solved by jmaster299,

What about the OCZ Fata1ty 550w?

Or the Ccoler Master Gx II 550w ?

Get the Corsair RM550 like someone else already recommended. It is Corsair current gold line of PSU and even got approval from Linus for nearly silent operation. Newegg even has Linus's video embedded at the bottom of their sales page for it. 550w is more than enough headroom for overclocking your CPU. There is no need to overclock your GPU as it will do that on it's own. If your temps are good your boost clock will exceed the advertised boost clock for the card. Your PSU is not something you cheap out on.

I was confident to go with the OCZ ZT 550w Power Supply, with my h87 mobo and Asus gtx 760.

But here on the forums, i was able to cut costs and opt for an Asus gtx 770 and was convinced into overclocking

I read that the minimum wattage is 600w for the 770

So will the OCZ ZT 650w just do it?

Or should I go For something like 750w ?

550W would be enough, just if I remember correctly those OCZ ones are loud and annoying.

Your estimated wattage is 428W. A 550W will be more than enough. Even a 500W would be fine. Id also recommend getting a PSU from brands like Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, Cooler Master, even EVGA makes some good PSU's.

That is the estimated minimum wattage. Since he has plans on overclocking, I would at the least go for a 550w. If it was me and I was going to be overclocking my Graphics card and my CPU, then I'd opt for 600. More room for upgrades, room to overclock, and more peace at mind.

your rig is likely same like me, and i using Corsair RM550, and i do OC on my CPU and GPU and use liquid cooling

go on gold efficiency 550-600W will be enough if you only use for 1 video card and overclocking IMO
