when im playing gta 5 with i3-4170 with integrated gpu with 8gb ram i smell something on my pc and the heat sudden rise up before i even notice and my pc suddenly smell like burn, when i calm my pc for 30min i open it again but it start to smell again and when it shutdown i cant start it up anymore but my motherboard is fine whats that mean? Does that mean i need to change thermal paste

Sounds like you may have blown a capacitor or some sort of chip. Open up your PC and look at the Motherboard, do you see anywhere with black/brown marks? You may have to look pretty hard, but if you see it you'll know quite quickly.

 

Also check your PSU, it's possible something shorted around or with the PSU.

 

And yes, doesn't hurt to check your thermal paste. Were you doing something power intensive at the time when you spelled burning? Like playing a AAA+ game or rendering something in blender?

 

Hopefully someone else can chime in here and give other ideas.

Alright Im not an electrician, but it sounds like you may have burned something, a number of things could've caused it. (Faulty wiring, bad capacitors etc.) But answer me this, did it smell more like burning plastic or rubber? or was it just like that weird Hot smell.

I checky every part of my motherboard and its looks like doesn't any damage but maybe if i clean my toasted thermal paste maybe it can fix it hehe
