Hi,

I am currently in the process of looking for storage to upgrade my computer.

I currently have:

500gb ssd (for OS)

2tb hdd for general storage

1tb hdd for games

what i would like to do is is upgrade to a 1tb NVME ssd and a 4tb HDD.

firstly, what is the difference between the NVME ssds?

Here are the top picks on amazon(image below). is the £110 worth the £20 more than the £87 one, if not/so, how can i tell? All im looking for is a slightly faster boot time and file transfers, nothing super demanding like video editing.

secondly, Once i have the drives, i would like to do a completly fresh install of windows with no previous files on the new drives, and then transfer over only the documents i want from the old drives by plugging them in later on. Would this be possible as i only have 1 windows 10 key and am unsure if it would count as me using it twice if i do it this way, if not what would be the best way?.

Any information would be greatly appricated.

Thanks : )

You're not going to get faster boots times than the SSD you have for your OS.   Booting accesses a lot of small (relatively) files and the benefits of the uber fast new drives are for sustained reading/writing, as the action of looking for the next file and getting to it is what breaks the sustained.

Think of it like having a Ferrari and Ford.  Driving in your neighborhood.  Stop signs everywhere.  One just can't get into it's groove to use it's massive power advantage.

For your prices on drives you list, you're paying the Samsung premium for the 980 over the WD, and the 970 Evo Plus is oddly overpriced on Amazon as even Samsung's site has it for $99.99.

If I were you, I would boot on the 500GB SSD, use a 2TB NVMe for data storage.  Or more.  Nix the HDD"s completely.
