I am about to build my 7th Pc using an Asus MB. This time the Asus Maximus VI Formula. I have always used the Asus Flashback Utility, this is where you download a new Bios file from Asus, rename it and flash it to the MB, using the ROG button. This can be a little hairy as any issues during the flashing can turn the MB into a colourful desk ornament. Asus tells me one thing and a few others tell me, not to bother...can anyone tell me if it is really that important????

for me personally, a good modern overclocking board must have 2 selectable bios chips, unfortunately asus does not implement this in their current generation of mainboard products

but hey thats just how i feel :)

Yeah but sometimes it becomes a hassle with having dual Bios motherboards, I've had issues when I owned a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 and I got annoyed with having a dual Bios as its not necessary unless your gonna overclock using LN2 cooling methods. Which Asus has in their Z87 Maximus motherboards

what exactly annoyed you? feel free to elaborate

I like the simple fact I can switch between two different bios's in the matter of seconds and a quick reboot.

I like to test \ bench alot so I personally like to compare new or older bios versions.

and of course if a bios gets corrupted for any reason your back up and running with the simple flip of a switch.

but hey thats just me lol, I overclock for fun :)

Well with the Gigabyte board I owned I had to keep the Bios' synced with what version they were, so I couldn't test between the 2 bios versions. It just ended up being more of a hassle then it was worth I ended up selling the board and kept my 3960x(which I still have for a later build)

I used the Gigabyte board as a binning board also for when I was building systems for a few of my friends. (My bin requirement is that its stable at 4.8Ghz with a voltage of 1.5 or lower)

I plan on getting a X99 board along with the new Extreme series CPU's.

I agree. Gigabytes dual bios system is not the greatest. but much better than only having one physical bios.

I have first hand experience on my z87-ud5h

In my opinon MSI has a much better dual bios implementation.

I would just flash the bios using the UEFI BIOS as I flashed my Z87-A in the BIOS and it worked (just had to do a CMOS reset to boot it).
