Going to be used for gaming mostly, some light video editing. And I MIGHT SLI in the future, not too sure. So for all intents and purposes, I'll say no to SLI for now.

Edit: Spelling. Glad my college education is paying off!

Don't mean to be THAT guy, but it's "for all intents and purposes".

I wouldn't recommend getting such an expensive cpu cooler when what you're doing is gaming. The 212 Evo is much cheaper and is plenty for a decent oc.

Unless you need Shadowplay, the 290 is significantly cheaper than the 780 and has simialar performance.

The Seagate barracuda is slightly faster and cheaper than the caviar blue. I'd also suggest getting a ssd--it makes a world of difference. The Adata sp900 is quite cheap and is a solid drive.

If all you want is red, the z87b fatal1ty killer is a much cheaper alternative.

There are also cheaper 8GB ram kits available. An ips panel would also be a better for the viewing angles.

Don't say future proof. There is no such thing. If you aren't SLIing then 650W psu would be enough. 4670k is less of a value than 4570k. 4770k is a better choice if you're doing light video editing.

I've heard from a lot of people that the Seagate Barracuda drives have a higher failure rate and are more unreliable than WD Drives :o

Also, will edit in that I have a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD already :P

Not true. They are equally reliable and it's likely the drives are coming from the same factories.

Ignore the ssd in that case.

@WoodenMarker's build is perfect.

The Hyper 212 EVO is amazing, simply amazing how much performance $30 gives you.

Don't need to spend more than $100 on an SLI capable, Z87 mobo unless there are specific features that you need.

Seagate Barracuda is a great HDD

RAM, find the least expensive 1600/1866Mhz, 4GBx2, 9-9-9-24, 1.5v RAM you can find, brand doesn't matter.

PSU and Case don't have a direct impact on performance, you can get away with spending less money on these parts if you want because they wont impact your FPS.  You certainly have the budget to go either way, and the case in particular can be reused over and over in all of your future builds, so buying a really nice one is an investment.  The mobo select is SLI capable, but think of it as the flexibility to do so if you deem necessary.  If you are on the fence about it, then go with a 550W Gold+ certified PSU or 600W Bronze+ certified PSU.  The Corsair CX600M is a very popular and inexpensive option, typically goes on sale for $45.  If you want something with a little more "umph" the Seasonic G or Rosewill Capstone series are really high quality that come with lengthy warranties.

Check some benchmarks to see the difference between the R9 and the GTX780.  The most important component is the GPU, nothing impacts performance more than the GPU.  Typically.. the 780 is better for gaming, and it has lower temperatures which is why it is more expensive.  The R9 is better for work related tasks, such as video editing, rendering, and recording.  The R9 is particularly appealing right now because it comes with 3 free games when purchased through newegg, and it is less expensive.  The 290X and 780Ti are more powerful, but considered bad value because they are hundreds of dollars more expensive for a minor 10-15% performance increase.

I have that exact monitor, and I freaking love it.  From the first time you turn it on you will be "wow'd"  Games look incredible.

A quick interjection, the word future proof belongs in at least three pairs of quotation marks, because that ain't happening. Stuff becomes out of date, thats just the way it is with computers.

The point of the quotation marks was to acknowledge that it won't be future proof, just something that'll last a while.
