Motherboard question

Go to solution Solved by Ryuikko,

The most obvious next choice would be the z690 tomahawk.

I don't particularly recommend oc on 12th gen Intel though, since you don't gain a lot of perfromance gain from oc. Also consider a case with airflow, since some of those components cam run toasty

Hello! Building a gaming PC in the U.S. and was wondering if any z series motherboards exist that have the same features as the B660 tomahawk in my build since I'd like to overclock the CPU. Some of my main priorities with the 660 were the audio, usb connectivity, and wifi. Can be flexible with the price, I'm just mostly curious what my options are. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Any particular case you'd recommend? Also, which components should I keep an eye on regarding thermals? And is there anything else I can do to keep them cool?

You can't go wrong with a 4000d airflow. Pretty solid thermals and a easy case to work in. Really the main 2 components that you should be worried about heat wise is gpu and cpu everything usually takes care of itself with the airflow from case fans.

With the cpu, 12th gen has pretty good heat tolerances, so it should be fine with most coolers, the thermalright peerless assassin or frost spirit are both good tower coolers and brands like ek and Arctic on the aio side are good as well

Gpu wise, most of them should be fine since their cooling design is decently thought out. As long as it's not a 1 fan card or one with known cooling problems like the msi mech, as well as having good airflow from the case, it  will be fine.

If possible, be sure to choose a case with some room inside for good airflow through it.
If everything is cramped up internally that affects how much airflow you get through it to keep things cool. If you can't get the heat out it's gonna run warm(er) to hot.

Be sure you have enough fans too.

They don't have to be high CFM-screaming fans to do the job.
Essentially you want to use all the places in the case that has a mounting spot for a fan to be used with air coming out the top and back, with air coming in from the front of the case and from the sides, from down low at the sides if possible but as long as it's coming in from the sides period it's fine.
