Hey people,

I just built a new PC. Installed my old HDD onto it for extra space. But now it is basically unusable. My reads are so unfathomably slow I can't install any game or program on it. What could be causing this problem? Is it fixable? So many questions... Maybe there are a few HDD experts out here? 😄

Average transfer rates are fine, not sure exactly the issue you're having.

Did you format it?

Honestly, I use a 3TB drive in my NAS but otherwise won't use a HDD for anything else.

I know it's slow because it's an HDD but I can't download games or play any of them off the damn thing. I tried replacing the SATA cable but the problem persists.

Maybe I got used to having an SSD lol.

How old is the drive?

Transfer rates seems ok for a 7200rpm SSD, max 180 MB/sec, average 100

Looks normal...

You can use it, if you're patient... But if you've used SSDs it will indeed feel like an eternity. Also modern games tend to download compressed stuff then decompress in place... which doesn't matter on an SSD, but is a terrible screnario for an HDD.

Hmm... Well, I think this HDD might be having some issues.

It could mean that there are a lot of bad sectors in your drive (but most of the time, it's just a read error and can be corrected, probably read write head misaligned). You can try to run check disk to check your HDD. It may take an hours or a day (depending on severity) for it to complete its job.
