Building a new computer, mostly for gaming. It's been about 6-8 years since I last looked at PC parts!

ChromE3

Budget (including currency): ~4000-5000 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: War Thunder, Minecraft, GTA, AoE3+4, Civilizations 6, Rising Storm, SOLIDWORKS, Cameo/MagicDraw, light video and photo editing.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): The following is my current build target: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ChromE327/saved/#view=NsX3wP

I'm looking at a build date around early September, but am willing to wait a month or so for the launch of Raptor Lake. Im sort of banking on building along the lines of a high end 4080 or 4090, assuming they are available.

I am upgrading from a 3-4 year old HP laptop running a 1050Ti, and a 8 year old desktop running a 960. I currently have one monitor (in parts list) but will likely add more. Perhaps more 4k, or perhaps a high refresh rate monitor for gaming.

Since the only main factor in the budget is how much longer I will be gaming on my laptop, I'm willing to go over budget for performance.

I have a preference for Corsair products, because I have had excellent support from Corsair years ago, so if two things are comparable, Id prefer Corsair.

I'm sure I'll find a cheaper copy of window somewhere, but I almost certainly will need a new windows license, since my only other license is a Windows 8 disk.

What thoughts do y'all have??

Yea thats just a pile of overpriced garbage

Peak gaming performance is alreaady achieved with a ~1.8k 12700f + 32gb ddr4 + 3080 (3090 if 4k+), for whatever reason i actually have one loaded up on pcpp so This is an example

Heres abit of money savings, though if you dont expect to reuse the psu for the next decade then go for a 1000w supernova gt at 140$, also if you want a ton of i/o then look at the z690 aero g

cpu overclocking is dead so dont bother with that, if youd like some form of oc then there is ram oc but pretty pointless if its just meager fanless <1.5v ocs, if you are serious on ram oc then look at crucial ballistix 64gb with micron 16gbit rev b ics and run 3800-4200 c14 (guaranteed max safe 1.65v, not advisable to go >1.7v) gear 1 (vccsa max safe 1.45v)

In that case there is little point in making any suggestions on current hardware.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Realistically you're gonna be waiting till winter till new CPU launch. 40 series cards will cost the moon, might be more worth to get discounted 30 series cards.

Unless you're Jeff Bezos there's no need to even touch the $4k mark, let alone go over budget for $5k:
