Can't boot to Windows

Go to solution Solved by Cidnar21,

It was the CPU.

I am not able to boot to windows.

I'm not able to boot with a windows install on a dvd. (made with media creation tool)

My PC was working fine this morning and I shut it down before I drove to work.

When I came home I couldn't start the pc (no output to my monitor/tv), so I cleared the CMOS  and then it did boot and got stuck while trying to load windows.

It starts and shows "*motherboard branding*, press F2...." And  on the next screen it's only showing the branding and restarts immediately.

When it restarts it's trying auto repair and gets stuck until it restarts minutes later.

I tried unplugging all unnecessary devices, reseating the RAM and GPU (because why not?) and nothing helped.

And then I tried downloading media creation tool (laptop is so old it can't even run it) so I used a DVD (created with media creation tool years ago for a different PC) changed the boot order and it said " press any key to start setup..." And it got stuck.

I tried it many times and it wouldn't boot.

Sooooo..I'm lost..help ;-;

Have you tried a bootable USB? I'm not sure the DVD media creator tool  is all that reliable, something as simple as a flaky disc could screw that up.

ADDED: You are seeing the motherboard branding message because the media creator may have created the bootable based on THAT PC's license key, which could mean the installer is looking for that motherboard. I haven't heard of this before, but software is advanced enough to tag its registration with the hardware combination. As much of a PITA as Microsloth is about license keys and such, I wouldn't put it past them. This has become more common as aming platforms have started doing this to ban cheaters, and it makes buying secondhand components a nightmare.

If the license key has been invalidated somehow, you can get cheap Win10 license keys for like $20. But I wonder if it might just be time to upgrade. You don't mention Win10 or Win11, but if you're trying to install Win11 on an older laptop, that could be part of your problem too. Even Win10 updates are starting to drop support for certain processors.

Specs:

- Win10 (unactivated) (can't look up the version, because it's not booting)

- Ryzen 3600x CPU

- RX 470 GPU

-  Crucial Ballistix 16gb 3600mhz RAM

- TUF Gaming B550-Plus MB

      - BIOS Ver. 2003

- 970 Evo NVMe

I'll try repairing with a USB boot drive, when I'm back from work (and have a second pc at hand).

One thing you could try is taking the drive out of your laptop and plugging it into your desktop to see if it boots. I had a similar problem once with my desktop and i ended up putting an extra ssd i had in an external enclosure and booting to that instead to fix my broken drive.

Soo...

I removed my SSD and instead I tried to use the Sata SSD of my old PC (I removed the NVMe so it is forced to boot from the old one)

and the same thing is happening (restarts when trying to initialize Windows)

Next try will be to update the MBs BIOS with EZ Flash (USB BIOS flash)

I'm updating the BIOS from ver. 2003 (I updated it after I built this PC) to ver. 2803

Side note: I can see when my PC crashes while initializing because my keyboard and mouse get turned off (no lighting, no activating NUM lock, etc.) and the monitor only shows "TUF GAMING" (no loading, just black void around it)

Update: using only one RAM-stick and then the other in different slots each time also didn't do shit.

I am not able to test if the CPU is faulty because I don't have another am4 CPU..

I guess wiggling on PSU cables to find out if they don't connect as they are supposed to is my next step.

My Question:

Is there anything else that could potentially be the cause of this" from one day to another iT nOt Do wInDoWs"- nonsense?
