is it jest me or do you also think core specs shouldn't change after a down payment is made

Down payment doesnt include the full cost. So, unless you paid in full for a product or signed a legally binding document, specs can change.

 

Down payment only gets you into queue.

Once you put your down payment, you've agreed to that size and model. If there are any changes, they will communicate them before you make your purchase.

If you want to step up or down, you'll need to cancel the down payment, leaving the queue, and purchase the down payment at the cost you want. The down payment is fully refundable, however it looks like some orders are queued up into 2023, so make your choice or expect a new model to be out by the time you change your mind.

Yes, that is true. However it seems Valve specifically calls the amount you pay for reservation, "reservation fee", so they can get away with doing this. I assumed they called it down payment there too but seems like it wasn't the case.
