Low FPS

RX 6600 8GB

16 GB CL16 3200 

 

I can't even get 60 FPS constant in Doom 2016 on medium... Constant frame drops into the 30s and 40s. CPU and GPU are nowhere near capacity yet performance is horrible. Open GL 4.5. 

 

What's going on here?

Yes, but it sucks and is probably messed up. It bottlenecks at 30 MB/s write speed. This was my assumption as well.

Can you use that same software to monitor the SSD speed while gaming? Also minitor the temperaturs to make sure your CPU isnt thermal throttling

not seeing an option to monitor SSD speed

Played the game for another hour or so. The harddrive activity light is on fully pretty much the whole time.

What SSD do you have?

You need to use Crystal Disk Mark or Samsung Magician (only for Samsung SSDs) to get accurate numbers.

 

Any other games with performance issues?

Yeah, just feels like I should be getting better performance in general. FPS will be fairly low, even though GPU is only at 60% and CPU is only at 25%.

Have you tried cranking up the settings in-game to high or ultra?

Yeah I've run from medium to ultra. Little affect on FPS, especially the lows.

Did you try reinstalling your GPU drivers?

 

If that didn't help:

Do you have access to a different PC (from a friend or so) where you could try your GPU? Another option would be trying a different GPU in your system. That way you can hopefully figure out if it is the GPU or something else.

Updated the drivers. When viewing the AMD software, I noticed the AVG FPS for all of my games is 55 FPS. That is everything from RE Village to Among Us. I think it's this piece of shit SSD.

Are you sure you don't have V-sync or any FPS caps activated?

yep - this SSD is freezing my whole PC just for a steam update.

cheap teamgroup sata 960GB from a couple years ago. I think it's been defective all along, I just never realized it because I came from a mechanical HDD. I just ordered a FireCuda 520 2TB NVME off newegg for $180 so hopefully that does the trick. couldn't pass it up at that price. If it doesn't fix it, though, what else could it be before I Hulk smash my computer and thereby my wallet?

I've run AS-SSD and it craps out on the write speeds. Literally won't even do the 4K test, completely freezes. Caps out at about 30 MB/s maximum on writes under best circumstances then freezes shortly after achieving that speed, feeling like it has to "catch up."

Sounds like a defective controller or something related to it.

The FireCuda 520s are solid drives. Let's hope it does. If I had to take a guess based on what you described it probably will.

OK so new drive is installed. The issue with file transfers seems to be solved, but my FPS is still low. Stutter and frame drop on Doom 2016 on Ultra at about 45-55 FPS.

Yep. Exact same issue. 55 FPS across the board. Surely the 1600 AF can do better than this? What else could it be? RAM? Mobo? Chipset drivers?

OK, so RE2 ran perfectly. GPU utilization at near 100% and 150 FPS on ultra. Actually made me think my PC might perform the way its supposed to for once. Deep Rock Galactic, between 60 - 120 FPS just running around the base area. Wild FPS fluctuations with constant microstutter. Checked to see if RAM is dual channel in CPU-Z. Just says channel number 2X64-bit - DC mode is grayed out. XMP mode is enabled, timings are as advertised.

Can you post screenshots of the CPU-Z memory tab?

Also under the SPD tab you can look at which slots are populated and what your RAM is running at. Usually you want slot 2 and 4 populated with RAM if you have 2 Sticks and 4 slots.

It's a fresh windows install and just downloaded the games.
