HI.

I am looking into the possibility of setting up a virtual router on one of my hyper-v servers. And since the LTT forum don't have a security section I will ask here. Is this somthing that is ok from a security standpoint or should I always be running the router on separate hardware.

My plan is to setup a virtual pfsense box with it's own 2 nics that is only accessed form the pfsense box. The ting is thet the hyper-v server will be running other virtual machines at the same time and while not mission critical applications will run alongside the pfsense box there will be some other less important hobby projects running on the server.

It's just fine, i run it at home (but in ESXi and with 10+ VMs on the host).

From a security standpoint i just wouldn't open up the hyper-v management ports on the WAN side NIC.

But pfsense will not know the different and nor would any would-be hacker.
