To start with my setup (+- 3 years old now) is still run all games on high or ultra settings:

CPU: X6 1010t Phenom II

GPU: Sapphire HD Radeon 5850

Mobo: Asrock 870 Extreme3

1 x 5.25" hdd

dvd player

HAF 922 Mid tower case.

(quick specs what's important for what's to follow)

I currently run this with stock fans in the case and stock cooler. Never (had to clean dust one time) had problems with overheating or so. It makes quite some noise and is pretty loud. Since i allways play with headphones on i had no worries about that. But now i want to use my pc for some experiment wich will take him to run over night and basicly 24/7 since i sleep in the same room i want to make the system more silent.

// Current

Casefans:

* 200mm LED fan / 700rpm / 19dbA

* 200mm / 700rpm / 19dbA

* 120mm fan / 1200rpm / 17dbA

CPU:

* stock cooler at 3200rpm

GPU:

* stock

// Plan

Casefan spots:

Front: 200 mm fan x 1 Red LED on / off fan x 1 / 700 RPM / 19 dBA

(can be swap for 120 / 140 mm fan x 1)

Top: 200 mm fan x 1 / 700 RPM / 19 dBA (can be swap to 120 mm fan x 2 )

Rear: 120 mm fan x 1 / 1200 RPM / 17 dBA

Bottom: 120 / 140 mm fan x 1 (optional)

Side: 200 mm fan x 1 (optional)

(can be swap for 120 mm fan x 2)

I'm planning to change all the casefans except for the LED one in the front and fill in the empty spaces (except the sidepanel see later for cpu plans):

Front: like current: 200mm led/ 700 rpm/ 19dbA

Top: 2 x noctua nf12

Rear: 1 x noctua nf12

Bottom: 1 x noctua nf14

For the CPU i want to buy a heatsink block like the Noctua NH-D14 wich alows me to run those fans on low speeds because of the massive heatpipe. This wil be to to fit with extra casefans on the side as i refered earlier.

Now the questions:

Wouldn't it be better (=quieter with same preformance as current) to use a closed loop CPU cooler such as a corsair h50 or equaly? This would make it possible to add 2 extra casefans to.

Should i change the GPU cooling? (i can test the cpu fan by setting it's rpm to 0 for a couple of seconds but i can't do this with my gpu) What should to cool it quietly?

Should i take a smaller heatsink block so i can fit the extra casefans on the sidepanel?

Note: I looked into (custom) watercooling and i've decided that wouldn't be that much of a improvement for me since the cost is to high for what i need since i want to cool my gpu to when i invest in watercooling. A second thing here is that i have a haf 922 wich isn't really optimised for watercooling (internal) and i don't want to mess arround with tubes coming trough the back an radiators on top since i move my pc pretty much (lans etc.)

Note2: the whole idea of adding as much fans as possible is to make them all run on very low speeds to get the same cooling with less noise.

Budget: not really decided but 400-500 euro's for a custom watercooling solution is to much. I'm aiming at 150-200 euro.

Noctua NF12's undervolted + noiseless screws.

Don't waste your money on the lower H series coolers. If you want something like that a Noctua D14, H80i or CM 212 for lesser performance and a lower price.

So you say low budget watercooling = no go. Go as i planned and use special screws (do they matter that much?) and this cable thingys to undervolt them?

Vibration in fact is a huge source of noise so anti vibration pads and screws can make a huge difference.

Don't noctua nf12 fans have this kind of padding and screws include?

Note: Some reseasch told me that i can fit a D14 + side panel fans in my case.

That depends on your ram; If you've got high profile ram for example Corsair Vengeance - it won't fit. And yes; the NF12's come with the mounts..

Should fit for me then i've got ocz gold ram. Those are normal size (i didn't know much about ram back then)

Thx alot!

So i'm getting those fans + other noiseless screws + volt reduction jumper thingys + d14

What about the GPU worth changing tho cooling on that one?
