Question about Nvidia GPU drivers...

Go to solution Solved by SimplyGone,

no it should be fine.  nVidia uses what they used to call Unified drivers.  So if it works on the 2070 it's work on a 3070ti

I recently upgraded from a Zotac 2070 super blower to an MSI 3070 ti and when i installed the new card my geforce now had a driver update and ive been just updating that whenever a new driver comes out, I havent tweaked my settings in geforce at all and it recognizes my card as a 3070 ti but do i need to uninstall the game drivers and install new ones?

You dont need to delete old drivers just to install new ones, new ones can overwrite the old ones these days. Only reason to delete the driver first is when you want to use older versions. Also better to use latest drivers whenever available.

I wouldn't put it that way. Indeed drivers work on more than one GPU model or even one architecture, but support still depends on what is stated on the support list.

Well i knew both the 2070 super and the 3070 ti were both within the support window so yeah it still works like that.  It does change when you're using older unsupported cards but in this case OP wasn't so i didn't think it was worth mentioning.  The 'unified' drivers thing nVidia did is an ancient thing that they still continue to this day.  I think it was introduced with the 256
