Hey guys, recently my brother told me that his PC has been running slower than usual and wanted to take me a look. After further inspection i've noticed that out of his 8GB ram, 4GB is hardware reserved for some reason. I've tried re-seating the ram, clearing cmos, testing slot by slot and both RAM sticks and slots worked without any issues. I've ran Mem diagnosis trough the windows and no issues have been detected. Before entering BIOS tho it was reading only 4096MB, but upon entering BIOS both sticks where showing, ran in single channel mode under 800mhz each.

Things i've tried to resolve this issue:

- Re-seating the ram
- Clearing CMOS

- Testing each ram and each slot separatly

- Setting real memory value in msconfig

- Changing the Virtual memory paging file to the correct value

I'd be glad if you guys had any ideas for me to try out to resolve this issue because this has been really bugging me for the past 2 days. In the attatchments i've attached screenshots from CPUZ and Task Manager. Thanks in advance.

Hey, does your brother's PC have an APU and uses it's Integrated Graphics or does it have a dedicated GPU?

Oh, my bad I didn't notice the GTX 1650 in task manager, anyways you may be using the integrated graphics which uses a fraction of the ram acting as VRAM

Okay so I found this article on Microsoft's official website, it's about windows 7 but it still may help you: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/the-usable-memory-may-be-less-than-the-installed-memory-on-windows-7-based-computers-3d194dc3-39b9-fae7-74d8-59931b53d2c2
