so the other day i was playing dota with my brother and my sister was streaming lovefilm on her ipad and me a my brother literally could play dota we goot disconnected and so i asked my sister to stop for a while and she did so then we finished our game then we started a new game and 10 mins in we got insane lag and she was streaming so after arguing with her for a while she came off once again but i had to "fix" the internet (because i built a pc so my mum thinks im a pc guru)so we could both use it as i am subscribed to linus i recently saw (quite conincidently) that he posted a as fast as posible about wiffi after watching that video i tried all he said but to no use so here is a list of some stuff u should know

 

-i am on wifi

-my brother is on wifi

-i am on talktalk

-me and my brother are both using a tp-link wn821n

-we all have full signal strenth to the router

 

but the thing i dont get is if i go onto http://www.speedtest.net/ i get

36 ping

6.5 ih down

and 0.5 ish up

so why cant i my internet handle it?

 

any help is appriated as  i a noob with internet.

dude I have the same issue. Talktalk is the worst ISP in the UK. I would advise to choose a different broadband provider.

not that i'm an expert but some of the issues you said sound like a wifi issue not a isp one your rooter can only send information to one device at a time thats where the lag comes from.My suggestion which would be wire it up won't be very practical for you but its the only way i know of to reduce that issue.
Also from the sounds of it Talk talk might be throttling you an issue my friend has when we game

ps what is your current provider

Mine is Talktalk as well however I discussed with my parents to change and we're going to be using EE (which is Orange & T-mobile) broadband from tomorrow onwards :)

 

Talktalk doesn't have a data cap however like @gmangigson wrote. Talktalk have a common issue of throttling the data speeds which is annoying.
