Budget (including currency): Unset budget, but probably around $850 for the card itself max

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly gaming, with potentially some light video editing/photo editing, but that can be done with my Mac.

Main games I will play: Assetto Corsa, F1, Doom, FH4/5, Dirt Rally 2.0, Minecraft (with shaders/RTX), GTA V, and other Racing Games.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/slashedm/saved/mywDjX

I plan to go 1440P @ 144Hz and occasional 4K, potentially doing 120Hz on 4K.

I already will upgrade the CPU to a 12400F + B660 with Wifi, and Im probably going MSI MAG B660M Mortar Wifi for the USB-C Port, but I also considered the UD AX from Gigabyte, since my 10400 doesn't like a shit ton of AIs on Assetto Corsa.

I was wondering, should I go for a 3070, 3070Ti or 3080? I don't exactly want to upgrade my PSU, but I will if I have to. I heard that the Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro at 650W should barely be able to power a 3070Ti + 12400F. I plan on doing VR as well, but just an Quest 2, so not too high of a resolution VR. Id also like to stay with Nvidia due to RTX. I do also prefer EVGA just for customer service but I dont mind going Gigabyte, MSI, etc.

Should I go 3070 or 3070Ti? And if I gone 3070Ti, should I buy a new PSU? I have 2 SSDs and 2 7200RPM HDD.

EVGA's 3070 is going to be around 630-650 and their 3070Ti is around 699 for XC3s

Don't plan on gaming 4K @ 120hz unless you really bump up your budget.

A 3090TI on a 12900KS can't hit 120hz on all titles that currently exist, so, a 3070TI certainly won't be doing that.

That being said?  Doing 1440 at 144+ Hz?  Totally a thing, and gaming looks awesome there, and your proposed system would rock at that resolution.

This 3080 12gb is $799. That's probably the best for your money, and with those performance goals it is the least I would get. Gigabyte's customer service definitely isn't as good as EVGA, it's probably the opposite, so that might be a problem since you seem to care about that.

You can get a gigabyte gaming oc rev 2 for 799 right now at Newegg that’s great considering what their prices used to be

A 3070? 3080? I cant tell, they do have a 3070 for 599, which is pretty good looking. I dont see any 799 card of Gigabytes OCs.

On either? And Yeah I only planned 4K for light games, but I think Ill just stick to 60 for that if I really wanted to. Is the 3070Ti worth the around $100 jump for my games?

Only thing that Im worried more about is PSU, since recommendations are usually 750W? I heard the Earthwatt Pro should be fine (650W).

So your build is not even 2 years old and you want to upgrade pretty much everything, including a graphics card of the same generation and the monitor.
To me, this looks like a waste of money if you sell all your old parts for cheap, because they are used.

FPS is just a number and you might not even notice a big difference, so here's my idea:
Get a 1440p monitor and connect it to your current PC. You will probably get about 60 FPS in most games. It should be pretty good already.
So feel the experience and think about, if it's worth to spend 1000 $ for a number, you won't really notice.

Personally, I use an i7-9700 and a RTX 2070, which is pretty much equal to the 3060's performance, for 1440p gaming.

To be fair, the CPU/Motherboard upgrade is practically getting necessary because it is struggling on AC with a lot of AI. And my BIL needs an upgrade from his 3rd gen intel system anyways.

I originally wanted 3070 but couldnt due to the GPU market, and besides, I have numerous people i know who will pay closer to MSRP (with of course taking some off, probably the taxes/shipping that I paid), so I dont mind taking a hit on it.

Im still also undecided overall. I already know this upgrade is kinda useless, and realistically if I want my moneys worth I should be at least trying to wait for 40 Series

Is your CPU at 100 %? If yes, an i7-10700F is 240 $.

At that point wouldnt it be more optimal to move to a more newer platform for only like $50 more? Like yeah the 10700F has more cores/threads but isnt the 12400F faster with more features? Genuine question since its been awhile since ive been in PC parts. I was told its better to just go with a modern platform and sell the 10400 and B460

The reasons for 12th gen are: Being future proof with the new socket, being ready for DDR5 and better performance of course.
So option 1: You go for a DDR5 motherboard and get extremely overpriced DDR5.
Or option 2: You go for a DDR4 motherboard and in a year, when DDR5 is more popular, your PC will not be compatible with it.

So yes, if money isn't an issue, 12th gen has better performance, but in my opinion, make your current build work and upgrade in 3 years.

Here are some benchmarks... https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-12400f/17.html
So the 10700 should be about as fast as the 12400F even with DDR5.
And both only give you about 5 % more FPS in games compared to the 10400F.

The higher the resolution, the more important the graphics card and the less important the CPU.

So to sum things up:

1. Get the 1440p monitor and check it out with your current setup. Probably enjoyable 60 FPS.
2. If you really get 100 % CPU load when gaming, get the 10700
3. In 3 years sell your complete build and make a whole new one with all the new stuff and RTX 5000 series (or something like that) because in these 3 years you saved a lot of money by not going for early DDR5 and you should be able to build a very very good build and your patience pays off.
