You will. There might be a slight latency hit, but the Z690 chipset does have a ton of bandwidth available to it, so unless you're trying to run 3 gen 4 SSDs in RAID 0, you'll get the full performance out of each one.

This board doesn't do that. AFAIK this is only an issue on Z690 with some higher end ASRock and ASUS boards (some B550 boards also do this occasionally for whatever reason). You can tell if it does if the M.2 slot is labeled as Gen 5.

Hello,

I wanna add another ssd to my system. My Motherboard is a GIGABYTE Z690 Gaming X DDR4 with 4 M.2 slots in total, 3 of that running from the chipset. SInce i allready have an ssd in the cpu slot, I would put it in a chipset slot. But im unsure if I will get the full performance, and if It will downgrade my pcie x16 slot to x8 (I've read something about that on the internet)

The manual only says:

Chipset:
- 2 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2260/2280/22110 PCIe 4.0 x4/x2
SSD support) (M2P_SB, M2Q_SB)
- 1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe 4.0
x4/x2 SSD support) (M2M_SB)

and later, that some sata ports get disabled, if populating the last m2 slot.

Edit: Specs on profile if needed. Im only using the top most pcie slot with a graphics card.

Do you have a use case that is THAT sensitive to performance?

It'll almost certainly not matter in a practical sense, especially for a secondary drive.

Looking at the block diagram the chipset attached drive won't degrade the GPU.
