i9 9900k problems?

Did you clear the box and reboot? If it is on 12 it will not let you select 16. This box should never be checked.

It seems to get checked automatically when you swap processors. Many people have had this same issue.

So I just installed a brand new 9900k in my system from a i7 8700 and in task manager its saying its a 6 core 12 thread CPU. Another thing that is weird is I'm getting a cinebench score of 8600 when the average for a non OC 9900k should be getting around 12,000. I also tested my FPS in games and there is no difference to my old tests, I have researched what stats other people get with systems identical to mine and their stats are much different/better. I'm a little concerned because I just spent a good amount of money on this CPU and new cooler for it, to get nothing out of it.

CPU-Z reads the same 6 cores 12 threads, Mhz fluctuates a lot sometimes down to 800 maybe I should try to update BIOS? I have never updated it since the board was installed. Also in BIOS it says 8 core 16 thread.

If it is a Z370 the bios may need updating. If it is a Z390 it should not.

@mozartt

When you change CPUs, open msconfig, select the Boot tab, press the Advanced options... button and clear the Number of processors box and reboot This allows Windows to find all of your cores and threads.

The bios is fine. It knows you have an 8 core CPU.

It is a Windows setting that needs to be fixed.

This is one of the first things I tried but it only shows up to 12 instead of the full 16 processors

Did you clear the box and reboot? If it is on 12 it will not let you select 16. This box should never be checked.

It seems to get checked automatically when you swap processors. Many people have had this same issue.
