It does what what skype does except for calling real life numbers and more.

If you check their website you will find all the features it has.

Dropbox - more convenient than plugging in the cable whenever you want to transfer pictures or files

Dolphin browser - really good full screen mode with support for tabbed browsing and gestures

Opera Mini browser - for whenever you're on a really slow connection

PowerAmp music player - there's a free version, but the small cost for the paid version is totally worth it

XDA Premium - if you care about Android

Titanium Backup (Pro) - makes life much easier, whenever you update to a newer version of Android or a different custom rom

Those are pretty much the essentials, imo. Everything else is optional.

Tapatalk can be useful, if you visit forums often and if your connection isn't the fastest. Not every forum supports it.

Airdroid can be useful as well.

Do not get WhatsApp, if you care about your privacy. I started reading their terms & conditions and removed the app asap without ever actually using it. That being said, check the permissions whenever you download something. Many permissions make sense when you think about it, but there's no reason for a wallpaper to request access to your list of contacts or even your sd card.

Also, only sideload apps after making sure that they came from trustworthy sources.

The only apps that I personally sideloaded are Team BlackedOut's blacked out versions of the play store and YouTube:

I love dark themes and the mentioned blacked out apps since they tend to be much easier on the/my eyes.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.
