For various reasons I'd like to be able to share my location with my partner so that they can know where I am if and when they need to.

Does anyone have any recommended (preferably free) apps that would allow any time lookup of my location data to a third party (with prior permission) on Android?

I'm aware of the privacy concerns with this sort of thing, but personally the peace of mind it would give my partner outweighs those. I know there is an entire debate that could be started around this but that I'm not particularly interested that. I've already decided I am comfortable with it. I would like to keep my data as private as possible from third parties, but accept that might not be possible.

Any advice appreciated!

Life360 worked well for me when I was driving semis over-the-road. As an aside, if data and privacy are a concern, you might consider using it on a cheap throwaway burner constantly on charge in your vehicle if you're never very far from it.

Thanks for the info! I accidentally marked it as the solution but happy to hear about alternatives as well :).

Huh so I knew I could share my location temporarily on Google maps.  But is it possible to share on a permanent basis (for example with a specified other account)?

I remember being able to extend the time limit to 3 days when I used it to display my location to customers when running a taxi service. Would have to email the updated link every time it expires though.

yep! it may send you a check in every now and then. not sure how easy it is to do that now though, i remember they changed how you sign up at one point. its not like that on ios anymore,.

😂 It's still a good solution.

Tracking my car wouldn't help unfortunately.

The need being addressed is... Well partly a tendency to wander off to friends houses while in a state where driving there is not an option anyway 😅. And forgetting to let my partner know, who wakes up in a panic to find I'm not home yet and (understandably) worries. The actual solution is to just stop doing that. But tech can help 😅.
