What kind of computer would i need for emulators? Everyone comes up with hardcore gaming builds, but what if i want one specifically for emulating gamecube and ps2? What kind of specs would i need? And would it be more cpu or gpu intensive? Id like a list of parts and a short explanation of why.

My i3 gets obliterated my emulators(ps2 mainly) and the gpu will help a lot if you are increasing the rendering resolution. Basically you need awesome everything. Im not sure about gamecube and im playing pretty intensive ps2 games like granturismo, persona 4 runs very well but it has small environments.

cpu: intel i5 4670k @ 4.5ghz Ram: G skill ares 2x4gb 2166mhz cl10 Gpu: GTX 680 liquid cooled cpu cooler: Raijintek ereboss Mobo: gigabyte z87x ud5h psu: cm gx650 bronze Case: Zalman Z9 plus

To emulate PS2 with smooth framerates you need something with strong single core performance and lots of clock. People were doing it on E8400 clocked at 4,0+ GHz and 8800GT and were getting smooth results

Asrock 890GX Extreme 3 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.50GHz - Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME Rev.2 - 4GB Kingston HyperX - AMD Radeon HD7850 - Kingston V300 240GB - Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - Chieftec APS-750 - Cooler Master HAF912 PLUS

Emulation is CPU intensive and will run best on any processor with strong single core performance. I have run PS2 emulators off my G2020 without any problem. Playing on MAME, NeoRageX or Nintendo DS will require something beefier like an i3 4130. You do not need a graphic card to play games in emulator but a 750/Ti will help a lot in newer 3D games.

Hope it helps! :)

You need an Intel CPU, preferably over clocked to 4 Gigahertz and 4 cores. AMD CPUs should be avoided at all cost if you want to emulate gamecube, since the cores don't have the raw power to emulate the games. 750 Ti and up is required to play at 1080P. A 270X and up will allow you to play at 1440p :D. 4 GBs of ram is required, SSD is preferable, and that's about it.

Give us a budget and we can help you make a parts list.

Im trying to stay under $500 with my next build, and it doesnt have to play at 1080p because my mother and younger bros will be the ones playing it and they cant tell the difference between 480, 720, and 1080. Everyone still wants to reccomend me stuff to max my build out. No. Stop it you silly people. I merely want one that will run the games at their original graphics settings, and i MIGHT turn up the graphics myself a little if i think it can handle it. But this build isnt for hardcore gamers, this build is for a mom and her two kids that want to play zelda. So dont worry about maxing it out, i just want it to run smoothly.

Core i3 with a 750 Ti will do. If your really on a budget, a over clocked APU can run it too.
