Advice for Ram

This is my first build, so any tips would be appreciated. I was recently at a Microcenter and an employee helped me spec out a build with a i7-12700K. We had decided on a 8GBx2 kit of DDR4, but when I got home I realized that he accidentally grabbed me a DDR5 mobo. I already talked to the store and will be returning to exchange the parts, but I wanted to ask if I should keep the mobo and switch to DDR5, or exchange the mobo for a DDR4 board. Last time I checked the performance of DDR4 and DDR5 were similar, but DDR5 is more expensive at the moment. Would it be worth it to go with DDR5 right now with potentially upgrading it in the future once it matures, or just stick to DDR4?

Not that it really matters for ram, but I will be using a R9 290 until GPU prices come down and plan on getting a 3070 (4000 series that can do 1440p 144ish fps).

I'd switch to a DDR4 board. By the time DDR5 gets affordable I'm guessing a new generation of CPUs and motherboards will be out and you may be looking at a whole rig upgrade by then. Switch to a DDR4 board, pocket the savings and buy yourself a nice meal to celebrate the completion of your first build!
