Dear all,

im looking for a Solution that has not a single Point of Failure as a Home Solution aka some kind of Mirrowed Server Setup.

Technology to use:

  • Docker Management : Kubernetis (for nextcloud and mariaDB)
  • Storage Solution: GlusterFS or CephFS

Requirement:

  • One Server can die without any outages
  • Butget around 200-300€/220$-330$ (without Switch and HDD/ SSD)
  • Some kind of low power solution
  • Minumum of 3 Sataports per Device
  • Minimum Gigabit Network
  • Read Rate of 50+ Mb/s on big files via Network.

My idea so far is to use 2x Odroid M1 with a m.2 to sata adaper with as they have low power usage (<5 Watt per Board)

Each attached to 2 HDD's (Storage) and 1 SSD (OS + Database + Docker) which would be similar to a Raid 01 Setup

Does anybody have any ideas that i should lookinto before starting this Project?

  • Is GlusterFS / Ceph feasible as a mirrow setup?
  • is Kubernetis the way to go for the mirrow setup?
  • Is there better Hardware to do that on the Cheap without high Power Usage?
  • Is the Hardware strong enough?
  • Is the whole idea even feasible?

Thank you for reading 🙂
