Laptop won't make it past boot screen when restarting for updates

Computer is a MSI GP62 6QF Laptop. 

When installing updates and then restarting, or whenever I restart it in general, it hangs on the MSI boot screen and will not continue reboot no matter how long I leave it. So now, I have updates pending and can't install them, as when I select shut down it tries a restart and gets hung up at the same point again...

to avoid getting into the nitty gritty of windows startup, maybe reinstall your windows partition.  If it works it was a corrupt windows something, if it fails in the same way it’s not.  If it fails in a different way I don’t know.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
