Hi everyone,

After a few months of getting quotes from companies I've finally decided to design the build myself and get somewhere to build it for me. As I've said in other posts I'll mainly be using it for editing and gaming (Any games from CiV and City skylines, to AC Valhalla and kingdom come).

I've come up with this configuration: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GrmF8r. All in I'm looking at £1600 for parts, build, operating system and 3 year warranty (The parts picker website doesn't have a price for the Graphics card).

Whats everyone's thoughts?

It's not a bad build, but there are some things that I'd change.

  1. The 12600K is a bit cheaper and will perform a bit better.
  2. The Scythe Fuma 2 is a much better cooler (and necessary for the 12600k, that's a hot CPU). Just make sure to get the Rev. B variant so it comes with the mounting hardware out of the box.
  3. I'd get a faster kit of RAM like 3600MHz CL16.
  4. Swap out the SSD for a 1TB model, they aren't much more expensive and 500GB is pretty limited for a boot drive nowadays (Source: am running a 500GB boot drive, really want to upgrade).
  5. Don't get the be quiet! 500, it has no airflow so your components are going to run real hot. Swap it out for something a bit more airflow focused like the be quiet 500DX, Phanteks P300A, Phanteks P400A, Corsair 4000D Airflow, etc.
  6. I'd swap out the PSU for something fully modular, it really helps in making the build go together much easier. The FD Ion Gold is a very solid PSU available for the same price as that Corsair unit.

By doing that, you should be able to bump the GPU up to a 3070 and be right about at the $1600 mark.

Wait, are you buying this system from a system integrator? $1600 for a system with a 3060 in it is a ripoff, don't get that. Again, you can get a system with a 3070 for right around that price mark. They're overcharging you a lot. I'd build it yourself or step the GPU down to a 3060 Ti and just pay a local computer nerd $50-100 to build it for you. Also don't pay full price for Windows, you can get a Windows 10 key from a reseller for like $20.

Consider an Intel build. Also, start with a 2TB NVMe drive. Add more storage as it become needed. Get the 500DX case, much better airflow and ambient lighting.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to go back to the start and consider an Intel build from all the advice I've got. Then potentially think about maybe building it myself.
