I have been building computers sines gateway existed, but haven’t done a full build since 2016.  I feal vary out of the loop and need a second set of eyes to go over my build list to see if there is anything that I’m missing.

 1. Budget & Location

South Carolina, USA

Under 2,500 or lower $US

2. Aim

First off, this system needs to be able to run City Skyline and some light CG work.  In addition, I need at least 10 Terabytes of storage preferably in a raid. Finally, the build needs to be future proof without breaking the bank.

3. Monitors

I currently use two ViewSonic 1080p monitors and one Samsung 720p TV. (yes, I know that I will need conversion cables for these monitors and GPU combination) I can’t currently upgrade at this time but would like to at a later date.

4. Peripherals

The only other carryover additions are my DVD and Blu-ray drives. (I do still use them)

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current system is slowly dying.  The hard drives and failing one after another. The CPU (I5-6600k) and GPU (GeForce GT 740 (I know, I know don’t laugh)) are no longer up to the job and the motherboard (ASRock H170A-x1/3.1) does not have any M.2 slots. And finally, I have run out of drive space manly do to failed drives.

Take a look at the m.2 slot that's underneath the GPU. It'll get toasty so avoid using it.

Also, check the height of the CPU cooler's fan placement since it might interfere with the RAM heat-spreader. Speaking from personal experience.

CPU R7 3800X    Motherboard Asus Prime X370 Pro  RAM  24GB Corsair LPX 3000 (at 2933Mhz)    GPU EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 SC  Case Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

Storage 1 x 1TB m.2 (Windows), 1x 500GB SSD (Linux Mint), 1x 4TB SSD (for data Samsung 870) PSU Corsair RM1000  Cooling deepcool ak620(? probably)

Synology NAS 2 x 8TB

Apparently i have managed to fit 36tb of storage on the thing + 2tb ssd, idk i just gone ham with the futureproofing for some reason

¯\_ (ツ) _/¯

Upgraded the board so more i/o and overclockabillity

The ram is an upgrade just because 4000 cl16 is easy with just a lazy overclock (start at 1.5v and lower if unstable, use prime95 large ffts for stability testing), even upto 4500+ cl18 if you ever wanna go that far

80% more hdd storage cause why the hell not, the budget even leaves room for the ssd to be upgraded to a high end gen4 so if you need that much speed then swap for a 980 pro

Upgraded the psu to 1000w cause its a long term saving so use it for the next 10 years or more

You can get windows 10/11 pro keys on cheapkeys sites like scdkeys and kinguin, theyre only ~20$

Cut the fans cause i do not know why the hell you need that many fans and if you do might aswell get a proper rgb case
