We have some decent Dell Poweredge R610's from ~10 years ago that have no purpose anymore. They used to be ESX servers, so they have 96gb-192gb of memory in each, but not much HD space (probably less than 500gb in each). Anyone have any good suggestions for projects that could be useful? I'm thinking about setting up one of them with pfSense as a replacement to our firewall, but even if that works, we'll probably buy new hardware to move the config over to. We already have a Hyper-V cluster, and hate it (no offense if you dig it), and are moving everything back to VMware.

Those servers will be wasted if you install Pfsense on them.. as you said they were used as ESX servers, why not use them as ESX servers?
