Hi,

I am planning to buy a Macbook Pro with:

  • M1 Pro with 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine
  • 32GB unified memory

Furthermore, I will connect it to at least one 4K@60Hz display and in the future to a second one.

I would like to do some 4K video editing and some software development on a LaCie 2big RAID 1 connected via USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gb/s) cable. All will be connected via Caldit TS4 and in the future I might buy a Thunderbolt to 10 gbe ethernat adapter and use a network drive.

Could I do all the video editing on the external hard drive and go away with 512GB storage and the above hardware configuration? Would I suffer any performance issues?

Thank you in advance

Yes.

Infact it's standard practice to edit off of a NAS.

That's sort of subjective. It honestly depends on the footage itself. But if it's connected via Thunderbolt I'd highly doubt there would be much of an issue there
