I'm sure this is a no brainer as to why it wont work but, I hear a lot about current gen GPUs spiking a lot in wattage and that triggering the overcurrent protection or some shit. Whats stopping you from getting 2 lower watt (say, 400/400) and using one solely for the GPU?

For gpus i dont really think its a good idea since part of the power draw is from the pcie slot

 

Real reason to run dual psus is powering high end systems with multi gpu or whatever that a 1600w psu cant power, a secondary psu might also be useful for powering extra stuff or just seperate the power source so if the mb turns off (maybe f ing around with ocing) then the stuff you power with the secondary psu will still be on (particularly useful for tecs)
