So I have been getting watchdog violations every now and then and ive read that making sure the drivers for my IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers are up to date could help resolve the issue. problem is that the ones i have are standard and list as being from 2006, and updating the chipset isnt changing that. Is that normal or should I have newer drivers, I cant figure it out at all. also for reference, I have a 3900x and a ROG Hero VIII motherboard.

Watchdog exceptions could be for any number of reasons; I don't think it's the best course of action to try and apply fixes and solutions without having a lead on the real cause of the problem. How are you getting these errors? I'm guessing BSODs; if that's the case, most of the times, Windows is able to generate memory dumps, which contain very useful information about the crash. Also, sometimes, you can find something useful in the Event viewer.

Oh, I forgot; about the driver, it's quite possible that the latest version of the SATA AHCI controller is actually from 2006. These things haven't really changed a whole lot. In any case, you should make sure, by going on ASUS' website, that there are no newer drivers available. Also, it would be a good idea to check for your BIOS version as well.
