My girlfriend currently has a stick of 8GB 3200mhz Cl18 1.2V RAM. Since that model (or another one with the exact specs) is unavailable, I'm thinking of getting her an 8GB stick of Kingston Fury Beat RAM - Also 8GB 3200Mhz, but CL16 and 1.35V.

The current RAM can run 3200@Cl18-21-21@1.2V, but the spec sheet says that the new one could do 3200@Cl-16-18-18@1.35V.

Would it be possible to still run in XMP until the original stick gets replaced? Would it be able to run at the original sticks 1.2V and slower speeds?

I hope this is the right forum, as it is an upgrade it seems more appropriate to post here rather then in troubleshooting.

Thanks.

You may wish to edit the OP and fix the font color of the second paragraph.

You will not be able to use XMP. You may be able to run the two sticks at the slowest speed and loosest timings. However there may be issues related to the mixed voltages. The 1.2v stick would have to be stable at the higher voltage. Not a given.

It would be better go a bit over budget and get a new memory kit. Something like https://pcpartpicker.com/product/P4FKHx/silicon-power-16-gb-2-x-8-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-sp016gxlzu320bdaj5

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Xmp likely won't appear for the stick or if it does it won't be fully stable.

Both sticks would be able to run at 1.2v or 1.35v memory voltage is pretty loose in ddr4 and the listed 3200mhz cl16 would be at 1.35v with xmp enabled. You will likely only be able to run them at 2666mhz or 3000mhz (oc manually) at 1.2v and need to go to 1.35v for 3200mhz cl18 again manually overclocking to boot and then try 1.2v (many modules will run 1.2v without issue but it is a gamble)

The best gaming PC is the PC you like to game on, how you like to game on it
