Go to solution Solved by Hairless Monkey,

Did you reset CMOS between CPU swaps?

Hey,

Around a month ago I upgraded

my CPU from a R5 3600 to a R7 5800X, and also upgraded to an AIO and a new case at the same time. Since then my PC hasn’t posted at all, no matter what I’ve tried. Everything powers up as usual (all RGB, fans etc) but nothing shows on my display. I’ve done the following to try and resolve the issue:

- Reset CMOS

- Swapped RAM

- Swapped motherboards

- Swapped PSUs

- Swapped CPUs

- Made sure BIOS was up to date (the new motherboard I got came with 5000 series support out of the box)

- Swapped cables (both HDMI and DP)

- Tested both cables and monitor using a laptop

I have also followed all steps on the pinned post, I’ve been thorough with my fault finding, it’s been over a month since I began having the issue.

My specs are as follows:

CPU: R7 5800X

Cooler: Corsair H150i

Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk

PSU: Corsair RM750X

Case: Corsair 465X

GPU: Gigabyte AORUS 2070 Super

Storage: Crucial 1TB SATA SSD

RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance PRO 3600mhz RGB

Here is a list of components I used to swap out as well:

CPU: R5 3600

Motherboard: ASUS B450MA

GPU: NVIDIA GT710

RAM: 32gb Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz

PSU: Corsair CX650

All of the above were my original parts other than the 710.

Any guidance on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. If I’ve missed anything then please let me know so I can edit the post with more detail, thanks!

If the BIOS is up to date on the board and both work with the older 3600, then I would suspect the 5800x is likely DOA.

It used to work with the 3600, but even after I tried swapping the 3600 back in, there’s still no post unfortunately. It’s really weird.

then sounds like maybe a bad BIOS flash? That board does have BIOS flashback ability so you can try and flash the BIOS on it without a CPU installed.
