Memory speed gaming importance.

In my haste to throw some parts together to make my first itx build, I glossed over the fine details of the mobo I got.

An asus strix b360-I gaming. I got 3600 cl16 ram but it only supports 2666 on the board.

I plan to run this cpu as hard as the other as much as it’s needed to play MW and BF. So would there be any significant FPS and latency wise to get a better board to utilize the ram as intended?

Not sure. But if the timings can be changed manually, you can at least compensate to get low latency

i think the difference in fps would be negligible, especially with intel. it would definetly affect latency and responsiveness if you could get it faster though. but the difference will probably be small.

I have no idea if the effectiveness of it all. Watched a few videos and articles comparing similar speeds with different cas and vice versa.

Intel like fast memory.

Since the board is going to limit 2667mhz, you'd be missing out at least on 5% performance I'd wager.

Seeing how the 8700K is very capable of running 4000mhz CL16 and tighter....

Or we could benchmark against each other. Typing on 8700K right now. What would you like to compare? (I don't have any games installed on this one. It spends most time folding)

Idk what good ones there are. I don’t have anything installed on it but the 3 games I’m gonna play. Can get stuff to do so though.

List the games, I'll check my library on steam.

I think 3D benchmarks would work, but my video card isn't the same. Running a 980 KPE on 1080P.

OK I'm installing PuBg Battle Grounds. This is for FPS, hopefully not for gameplay points. I've never played the game..... XD

42GB damn. It'll be a while, this is a wireless connection at 100 foot.

What FPS counter do you use. 1080P ok?

Other similarities we can achieve for good measurements?

I’m on 1080p. Prolly gonna use steam overlay as I don’t have anything else on it. Don’t think they use any presets for settings. I’ll have to see.

32%. probably be another hour or two. I'm at defaults. 12 threads stock CPU frequency. On air cooling. Core #4 suffers the hot spot.

What clocks do you want to run the Cpu?

Ok, I can put it back to default. Didnt mess with the cpu yet, just put the xmp profile on. On air as well but doesnt get hot in a game like pugb from what I can see. But this is my first ever air cooled rig aside from just testing.

OK, cpu defaults, what speed for the memory should I run? at 2133 defaults now. Done Dling.

Like mentioned the max I can do with the mobo is 2666 and it’s 3600 ram. So if that can be done, it would be nice.

Figured we could roughly measure the difference, I can run 3600 no problem.

At 2133mhz Ultra everything settings. Low of 84fps. High of 123fps. Usually right around 100fps.

It was pretty smooth. I don't see memory making a great difference with PubG other than increasing the FPS which at 100fps becomes arbitrary.

In the weapons training tutorial, was hitting 350fps when I realized the settings where at defaults XD lol.

Field of View set to 100.

Just ran another AI training mission.

3600mhz 14-14-14-34 1.40v

Made absolutely no difference at all.

Average about 97fps. Usually around 100, but the lows I caught 77fps in the "red zone" when I died a bloody death haha.

Ok. Thanks for all the effort. I’ll prolly leave it as is. Not sure I wonna try and sell this mobo and spend $300 on the next one.

It was fun.

Did play around with settings AA on off, post processing. Those didn't change the fps much either.

Was thinking to OC, or just run 6 cores with HT turned off to see if that increase frame rates, but haven't tried yet.

I think cooling for cpu frequency would be better spent than faster ram speeds. Good call.
