Hard drive transport

Go to solution Solved by 7heo,

While running? No. Laptop hard-drives have protections so that the heads don't scratch the plates when movement is detected and the drive is in use, but with SSDs, that has become a lesser problem. Just don't run when your HDD is in use, unless it is a life/death situation. Buy a big external SSD and you'll be fine.

I'm wondering if a hard drive can be safely ran inside a pocket while it is running. I know it's stupid, but I'm using a hard drive with my phone because the hdd is 1tb and my phones storage is 16gb so I was going to store all my apps on the hard drive and be able to store any app I wanted on that hdd.

Isn't windows three-sixty-five just a more recent version of windows three-eleven?

I wouldn't use a HDD in that capacity as the vibration from walking etc could cause it to fail prematurely, but if you're using an external SSD, maybe a SATA based one in an enclosure you should be fine. The slower SATA SSDs don't get that hot. But if you got a 'high speed' SSD then it might get too hot in your pocket.

Ok I will use The HDD for storing apps like games and other stuff so I don't waste storage on my phone (It's a bad phone, I'll upgrade later), but for apps like Spotify or YouTube, I will store them on this 64 gb usb stick instead. I am mostly sitting at my desk where my pc is so the HDD will be on a flat surface. Thanks for telling me before I kill my hard drive!
